50th annual Pumpkin Roll

at The 50th annual Pumpkin Roll  in historic Knights Ferry on Sunday Nov 3rd.

The event always is held on the first Sunday after Halloween. Every year, a pickup load of pumpkins is donated by George Perry and Sons of Manteca, one of the area’s largest growers.

Sign-ups start at 11 a.m. in front of the Knights Ferry Community Club. The registration fee is a small donation.

First up are the toddlers to 5-year-olds, competing at noon on the tennis court.

The main event, for age 6 and older, begins at 1 p.m. In the event, contestants roll pumpkins bowling-ball-style along Main Street, with the goal of getting them as close as possible to a white painted line about 25 feet away.

The day starts with a pancake breakfast at the International Order of Odd Fellows Hall on Main Street from 8 until noon.

The event also features a holiday craft fair, Cowboy Toffee and food for sale, including the Garden Club’s pumpkin roll desserts, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The museum upstairs in Miller’s Hall will be open, as will the ice cream shop.
