That smoky showdown became the inspiration for a toffee that also starts quietly.

The first bite brings crisp, buttery English toffee, rich Guittard dark chocolate, roasted almonds and a touch of sea salt.

Then the ghost pepper shows up.

Its heat builds behind the chocolate and caramelized sugar, leaving a warm, smoky finish that lingers long after the first bite has disappeared.

One minute you are eating toffee. The next, you understand why the town is empty.

We were not interested in making a novelty candy that people try once on a dare.

The ghost pepper has a job: cut through the richness of the butter and dark chocolate while adding a slow-building heat that complements the toffee instead of burying it.

That said, it is still ghost pepper.

We use Guittard chocolate, which Guittard documents as slave-free—one of the reasons we choose it.

INGREDIENTS

Butter (cream, salt), dark chocolate (cacao beans, cane sugar, cocoa butter, sunflower lecithin, vanilla), non-GMO cane sugar, almonds, ghost peppers and sea salt.

Contains: Milk and tree nuts (almonds).

TOFFEE CARE

For the best flavor and texture, keep your toffee below 70°F so the chocolate does not soften or melt.

To keep your toffee awesome after opening, store it in the refrigerator in an airtight bag, such as a zip-top bag.
